Marriage Killers

(The following is an outline of the sermon that was preached by Michael Larsen on August 4, 2019.)

The Marriage Matrix - Part 2

How does a marriage that started off so right end up so wrong? Sadly, many marriages deteriorate in three stages.  They start off with harmony and they move to hostility and then eventually move to apathy.  What causes such a great beginning to have such a terrible ending?  Is there anything you can do about it?  

Before you can work on your marriage, before you can improve it, you’ve got to understand what causes marriages to go wrong.  What are the 4 marriage killers?   

I. Unrealistic Expectations.  

II. Unaccepted Differences.  

Celebrate them and realize that God wants to use them in your life.  God’s number one tool in your sanctification if you’re married is your partner.

III. Unresolved Issues.  

All of us carry baggage into our marriage. Marriage doesn’t create problems, it reveals them.  It shows the areas of your life that you need to work on.  

IV. Unforgiven Hurts.  

Unforgiveness is the worst sin in marriage.  Why?  Because it’s the one that holds every other sin captive.  It’s the one that won’t let go.  You have been forgiven by God and God expects you to forgive others.
