NAGOYA UNION CHURCH
A SMALL CHURCH WITH A BIG LOVE FOR GOD
(This is a summary of the sermon preached on January 26, 2025.)
Christian life is similar to survival training, where preparation is key to thriving in difficult circumstances. Jesus provided his disciples with the ultimate "survival training" during the Last Supper, known as the Upper Room Discourse (John 13-16). One of the most striking lessons from this passage is Jesus washing his disciples' feet, an act of deep humility and love. Despite being the King of Creation, he took on the role of a servant to set an example for his followers.
Worldly love is often selfish, seeking personal benefit, whereas Jesus' love is selfless and sacrificial. To follow Christ’s example, believers must:
1. Know who you are – Recognizing your identity in Christ gives you the strength to serve.
2. Know what Jesus did for you – Understanding his sacrifice inspires gratitude and love.
3. Do what you know – Acting on Jesus’ teachings leads to a blessed life.
Just as survival training equips people for challenges, applying Jesus’ teachings enables Christians to both survive and thrive in life, holding on to their faith until eternity.
